Heritage Park in Santa Fe Springs

on April 3, 2012

Tucked away in an industrial area of Santa Fe Springs is a really lovely park, Heritage Park.  Lovely sounds kinda prissy but that really is the best word to describe it.  It is the site of a former ranch, and the city has restored its grounds as well as some of its buildings.  On the main grounds, you will find a carriage barn, a greenhouse, an aviary, a windmill building and a Tongva exhibit.  Adjacent to the main grounds is a train exhibit.  There is a steam locomotive, a boxcar and a caboose.  The kids are allowed to climb into the locomotive but the exhibit is only open on the weekends.  There are also picnic areas on the main grounds and I think it would be really lovely to have a picnic there with sounds of the fountains in the background.  One thing to note is that there is no playground so according to the kids, “it’s not really a park”.  Regardless, it truly is worth a visit especially on a nice day.  Special thanks to Glenda for telling about this hidden gem!
