Tomorrow is September 1st already! Can you believe it?! Where has the summer gone? The First is the day you can reserve tickets for Free Day at the Huntington Library in San Marino. Tickets will be available starting at 9 a.m. tomorrow and most of the tickets are gone within
minutes seconds. Good luck!
The First is also the first day to register for programs and story times at Cerritos Library.
The First also happens to be the first Saturday of the month so that means it’s FREE day at the La Habra Children’s museum and the theme is It’s a Small World. Scheduled events are a marionette show and puppet making crafts. The museum will be closed for the rest of the month so enjoy it while you can.
The First also means that there’s a free Kids workshop at Home Depot. Tomorrow your child can build a Goal Post Football Game.
Finally, the First is also the first day of the football season. (I just put this in for all you dads out there but I guess I didn’t need to remind you.)
Whew! That’s a lot of stuff! Hope everyone has a great First and an even better Labor Day weekend! Have fun!
Update (October 10, 2012): HPTL still has two vacancies in the 4 year old age group.
The Heritage Park Tot Lot is a co-op preschool, which means that it is run by parents. One of the most frequently asked questions is if there is a teacher and the answer is YES. I have had the privilege to see all the work that goes on behind the scenes of this preschool and I have so much respect for the parents that have made this program a success. Usually, there is a wait list for this program that goes a year back. Amazingly, this year there are 2 vacancies in the 4-5 year old group. This is a rare opportunity so jump on it if you’re looking for a great preschool. For additional information, please see the flyer below and/or my earlier blog entry.
In honor of the 20th anniversary of the Mary Stauffer Foundation, they are sponsoring a Free admission day to the Columbia Memorial Space Center on Sunday, August 26 from 10-5. If you and your family haven’t been here, it is well worth a visit and it gives you a reason to swing by Porto’s. For more information on the space center, click here.
Since I’ve become a stay at home mom, my one wardrobe staple are my jeans. I always balked at the idea of paying hundred’s of dollars for those “premium” brands, but boy, once I tried them, I was hooked! Still, I’m not shelling out all that money for jeans. Well, here’s the best of both worlds–buy premium jeans at their sample sale! I love me some Hudson jeans. They are super comfortable with a great fit but they usually retail for $200! At the last sale I went to, the seconds were $40 and regular production was $60. By seconds, it means there are slight imperfections and/or irregularities. I picked up 3 pairs of seconds for the price of one at full price and I love them. I never noticed the difference. You do have to know your size and fit though because you cannot try anything on so stop by Nordstrom and try on a couple of pairs before you go.
A couple of free apps are available for download today only!!
Toca Doctor by Toca Boca: Our family has several of the Toca Boca apps. My toddler still loves this game which teaches little ones about the functions of the human body. This app is compatible for both the iPhone and the iPad.
Now here’s a free app if you have older kids or even if you just have a thirst for information. Geo Walk HD is a beautiful modern take on an encyclopedia. This app is also compatible for both the iPhone and the iPad.
Get them while they’re free!
Register now! There’s still room for this weekend’s workshop. You get to build an onion carriage for Shrek.
- Lowe’s Build and Grow clinics: Bring the kids into any Lowe’s store and build a FREE wooden project. Each participant also receives a free apron, goggles, a project themed patch, and a certification of merit upon completion of their project.
I think everyone in the U.S. has been experiencing a heat wave unless you live in Hawaii or Alaska! How does a nice big cup of ice cream sound? YUMMY! Here’s a hot little coupon for BOGO free. Enjoy!
If you have a problem printing it, please follow the link.
When it’s already 85 degrees at 9:00 in the morning, who doesn’t want a cold “healthy” smoothie especially when it’s a buck?! We went last week and they didn’t limit us to one so we were able to get one for each of us. Also, if the 16 oz size isn’t big enough for you, you can get the bigger sizes for $2 or $3. The line can be a bit long, but at least you are sitting in an air conditioned room. I know it’s valid at the Cerritos location but to confirm other participating locations, click here.
Free screening of The Lorax at the Cerritos Library today at 2:00 p.m. in the Skyline Room. Enjoy!
The 80th Great Sand Sculpture contest is this weekend at Granada Beach in Long Beach. You can view sculptures built by professionals or even build your own. There will be arts and crafts vendors, live music, and food on both days! The event will also include a kid’s zone, where kids can build their own sand castles under the supervision of adults.
1 Granada Ave.
Long Beach, CA 90803
Tomorrow is also the first day to register for City of Cerritos Aquatic classes if you’re a resident. Good luck!
