What a Dip!

Make this now and thank me later!  I tried this insanely addictive dip for the first time at a baby shower and then proceeded to create new addicts along the way.   What are you waiting for?  Go.  Make.  Dip!

Toffee Apple Dip

recipe is ready in under 30 minutes ready in: under 30 minutes

ingredients:

  • 1 package (8 ounce size) cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 package (10 ounce size) English toffee or Heath bits

directions:

With an electric mixer, mix cream cheese, sugars, and vanilla until smooth. Mix in toffee bits.

Serve with apples.  I usually use Fuji.  In order to prevent the apples from browning, you can soak them in some acidulated water, which is lemon juice and water.

My Favorite Sample Sales

Splendid and Ella Moss are having another warehouse sale this weekend except it’s only for Men and Kids merchandise.  I guess they sold out of all the women’s stuff at their last sale. Well, it is the holiday season so you can go buy stuff for other people.  I don’t know how much the men’s stuff was because I never paid attention but the kids prices are listed below.

Splendid/Ella Moss kids: leggings $5, everything else $15

Hudson Jeans was also scheduled to have a sample sale this weekend but they have postponed it due to inclement weather.  Check out my last post on their sample sale.

Splendid!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  What’s that you say?  No, it’s not the first day of school.  It’s time again for the Splendid/Ella Moss warehouse sale!  This posting is for all you mommies out there. Splendid and Ella Moss are having their warehouse sale this weekend. If you’re not familiar with these brands, they can be categorized as high end sportswear. Everything is very casual but the fabrics are super duper soft and luxurious. They are perfect for moms. The average retail for a top is about $50 and up at a department store but at the sale, it’s $20. This is how some of the items were priced at the last sale in June.  It was a mad house and the line to pay by credit card was about an hour long but I think it was worth it because I’m worth it. (ha…I couldn’t resist)

Splendid: tops $20, dresses $35
Ella Moss: tops $25, dresses $40
Splendid/Ella Moss kids: leggings $5, everything else $15

If you want to alleviate some guilt for shopping, buy something for your kids. They have kids and men’s clothing as well. There are no dressing rooms so plan on pulling stuff over what you’re wearing. Parking is $10 in the building or there is meter parking, which is $4 an hour.

Lie to Me: Five Lies I’m Proud of Telling My Kids

Hilarious! Now why didn’t I think of these?

Daddy Drinks

Parents lie to their children. That’s a fact of life. Some do it better than others, but we all do it. Could you imagine a world where parents were honest with their kids?

“Actually, Timmy, there’s a really, really good chance that you won’t be an astronaut. Considering your complete inability to understand long division, you’re probably going to sell cars when you grow up. Now let’s talk about Santa Claus.”

So we lie. Mostly about the little things. My parents were great at it. The most famous lie my parents ever told their kids happened during a move from Georgia to Texas. My parents told their kids that it was against the law to transport a dog across state lines.

Brilliant. The dog was a pain in the ass, they didn’t want to take him along. I understand this now, and it serves as inspiration for my own suite…

Quick Question

Dear Readers,

I feel a little presumptuous asking this question because I’m assuming people are reading my blog but I guess if you’re reading this, then you are! Thanks!! Anyways, here’s the question: when I post about upcoming activities and events, how much time prior to the event should I write about it? If I am aware of an event ahead of time, I’ve been usually posting stuff about a day in advance which is about how long my own feeble mind can retain that information. So tell me, what’s the magic number? One day, two days, a week, the day of? I would really appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!!

Florence

Splendid!

Update (6/09/12): I was able to go to the sale yesterday, and the prices were the same as last year:
Splendid: tops $20, dresses $35
Ella Moss: tops $25, dresses $40
Splendid/Ella Moss kids: leggings $5, everything else $15

It was a mad house and the line to pay by credit card was about an hour long but I think it was worth it since I was able to pick up an Ella Moss top that currently retails for $88 for $25 among the many things I picked up.
