Soccer Registration TOMORROW!!

Registration begins tomorrow (May 1) for the City of Cerritos youth soccer league at the Cerritos Sports Complex from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. if you are a resident.  For non-residents, registration will open on May 8.  If this is your first time signing up, bring something to read and be prepared to wait!  Based on my own experience, the wait time is about an hour or more.  The process has improved slightly because the staff will now hand you a number and you wait for your number to be called instead of standing in a “Disneyland” line.  The fee is $45 and you get a jersey and a trophy at the end of the season.  The kids are divided by birth year so kids born in 2008 will be entering Rookie I and so forth.  The Cerritos Sports Complex is located at 19900 Bloomfield Ave., Cerritos.

If that’s not enough soccer for you, check out the AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) program.  Cerritos falls under Region 54.  Upcoming sign-ups are May 16 at Cerritos Park East.  Please check their website for more information.

Cerritos Spring Festival

The City of Cerritos is holding its annual Spring Festival this weekend.  The event starts tonight and runs thru Sunday, April 28.  There will be rides for all ages, game booths, food, and community service booths as well.  The main stage will also host performances by our local talents and little dancers from our community dance studios.  Our favorite part of the festival is the fireworks show to be held at 8:30 on Saturday.  If you just want to watch the fireworks, park in the back parking lot at Target next door to access a perfect view.  There is no admission for the festival itself but you will need to purchase tickets for the rides and food.  They sell $25 wristbands for unlimited rides or you can buy individual tickets for the rides.  They vary from 2 tickets for a funhouse to 4 tickets for a thrill ride.   On Sunday, the Kogi truck and the Grilled Cheese truck along with some other yummy food trucks will be on site offering their yummy deliciousness.  See you there!

Open seSAMe

Hey Party People!  I was informed by an awesome mom that Sam’s Club will be opening its doors to everyone this weekend. From Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28, members and non-members can shop without any additional fees.  Just stop by the Member services desk to receive a temporary membership pass.  During this 3 day event, Sam’s Club will offering lots of summer foods and beverages for sampling.  Yum!  (Don’t tell Costco I’m cheating on them.)

DaisoIn other retail news, Daiso is opening a store in Artesia!  Yay!!!  (Is 3 exclamation points too much?)  What is Daiso you say? It’s a Japanese 99 cent store except everything is $1.50 so it’s a Japanese $1.50 store.

What a Dip!

Make this now and thank me later!  I tried this insanely addictive dip for the first time at a baby shower and then proceeded to create new addicts along the way.   What are you waiting for?  Go.  Make.  Dip!

Toffee Apple Dip

recipe is ready in under 30 minutes ready in: under 30 minutes

ingredients:

  • 1 package (8 ounce size) cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 package (10 ounce size) English toffee or Heath bits

directions:

With an electric mixer, mix cream cheese, sugars, and vanilla until smooth. Mix in toffee bits.

Serve with apples.  I usually use Fuji.  In order to prevent the apples from browning, you can soak them in some acidulated water, which is lemon juice and water.

Grab Toca Tailor for free right now because it’s the “App of the Week”.  It normally retails for $2.99.  This fun app lets your child be a fashion designer.  Honestly, I’ve been fighting with my daughter to play with this app because it’s so fun.

Also free right now is Dr. Panda’s Veggie Garden.  This app is very similar to the Toca Boca apps.  Your child can grow all kinds of veggies and fruits for their customers.  It’s regularly $1.99.

FREE App: Toca House

iPhone Screenshot 1

I’ve found another reason to love the kind folks at Toca Boca.   Today in support of World Autism Awareness Day, their Toca House app is free–normally, it costs $2.99.  If you follow my blog, then you know my family and I are big fans of all the great apps by Toca Boca.  This is another great app where your child can play with a variety of games mimicing chores around the house.  Get it while it’s FREE!  This app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.2 or later.
